Spies Nominated For AMA Motorcycle Hall Of Fame

Three-time AMA Superbike Champion Ben Spies has been nominated for the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame.

Three-time AMA Superbike Champion (2006, 2007 and 2008) and 2009 World Superbike Champion Ben Spies is on the list of nominees for the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame with voting slated to end on July 1. Spies is sixth on the all-time AMA Superbike win list with 28 career victories.

“The AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame nominees for 2022 include men and women who’ve excelled in competition, advocacy and promotion of the sport of motorcycling,” said AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman in an AMA press release. “They have advanced motorcycling in many diverse areas, from creating innovative motorcycle designs, to excelling in dirt track, motocross and road racing competition, to creating enduring events that have helped grow motorcycling, to advocating for motorcyclists’ rights. We’re honored to recognize all the 2022 nominees and look forward to announcing the Class of 2022 soon.”

Spies, who also won the Dutch MotoGP in 2011 for his lone MotoGP victory, retired from the racing in 2013 after suffering from career-ending shoulder injuries.

Texan Spies is one of 21 nominees for the class of 2022 and is the only nominee from the road racing segment.

Eligible voters for the Hall of Fame include past Hall of Fame inductees, members of the AMA and AMHF Boards of Directors, and members of the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Category Selection Committees. AMA Life Members with at least 25 years of consecutive membership are also eligible to vote.

Results will be announced in August with the induction ceremony scheduled to be held on October 28 in Pickerington, Ohio.
