Roberts, Beaubier Set For Q2 Tomorrow In Grand Prix Of Doha
Both Joe Roberts and Cameron Beaubier will feature in the Q2 session tomorrow at the Losail International Circuit after both of the MotoAmericans were in the top 14 in today’s Free Practice 2 for Sunday’s Tissot Grand Prix of Doha in Qatar.
Roberts rode his Italtrans Racing Team Kalex to the fifth best time in the evening Friday session, which was led by Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Raul Fernandez. Fernandez lapped at a best of 1:58.541 with Roberts slotting into fifth, .672 of a second off the Spaniard’s quick lap.
Roberts owns the Moto2 lap record at Losail, his 1:58.136 set during qualifying for last year’s Grand Prix in Qatar. Roberts finished sixth in last week’s season opener at Losail.
American Racing Team’s Beaubier ended up 14th with his 1:59.777 today and that will put him straight into the Q2 session tomorrow for the first time.
Last week, Beaubier qualified 22nd and fought through to finish 11th in the Grand Prix. Last week, Beaubier’s qualifying best was a 1:59.673 set in Q1 and the five-time MotoAmerica Superbike Champion will be out to beat that tomorrow.
