- Ducati took part as the only motorcycle manufacturer in the 20th edition of the Autostyle Design Competition
- During the event, the four motorcycles that make up the Multistrada dynasty were exhibited, the model that more than any other underlines Ducati’s growth and technological development over the last 20 years
- Andrea Ferraresi, Director of Strategy & Centro Stile Ducati, and Andrea Amato, Chief Motorcycle Designer, presented the evolution of the Multistrada design
Andrea Ferraresi, Director of Strategy & Centro Stile Ducati and Andrea Amato , Chief Motorcycle Designer, presented the evolution of the Multistrada’s design over the course of its twenty-year history during a workshop which gave participants the opportunity to discover the creative processes that characterize the DNA of this family of motorcycles.
“It was exciting to participate in Autostyle to talk about Ducati design. Style is one of the three fundamental values of the brand and is one of the distinctive elements that make a Ducati unique and recognisable. We decided to bring an in-depth look at the Multistrada to have the opportunity to celebrate twenty years of this motorbike once again, which for us is synonymous with cutting-edge technology, performance and emotions combined with a unique and distinctive style”, declared Andrea Ferraresi, Director of Strategy & Centro Stile Ducati.
The Multistrada (Multi-strada, meaning ‘Multi-road’) was created with the aim of offering a Ducati both versatile and sporty, capable of tackling any terrain with maximum safety and solidity. Since the first series, the design has been a central element, so unique and particular that the first prototype seemed a real stylistic provocation.
From the second generation, the bike takes on the connotations that even today distinguish it, making it original and innovative: the frontal area is the protagonist and volumes become more prominent leaving the sporting soul unchanged. Over time more and more attention is given to rider and passenger comfort, a fundamental element for those who take on long journeys and adventures on their Multistrada.
Each one of the bikes on display at Autostyle represented a milestone not only for Ducati but for the entire world of motorcycling. The first Multistrada 1000 DS embodies the vision and initial inspiration behind the creation of this bike. The Multistrada 1200 was the first motorcycle in the world equipped with Riding Modes, to have the soul of four different motorcycles in one.
The subsequent Multistrada 1200 DVT, equipped with a 160 hp and 136 Nm Testastretta DVT engine, represents a record thanks to its innovative continuous variable timing on both the intake and exhaust valves. Finally, the Multistrada V4, whose beating heart is the revolutionary V4 Granturismo engine, capable of combining sporting performance with world-class maintenance intervals, was the first motorcycle in the world to mount rear and front radar.
Ducati’s participation in the Autostyle Design Competition as the only motorcycle manufacturer underlines the success of the Ducati philosophy, which sees design become a fundamental element to realize the dream of every Ducatista, through the creation of motorcycles that are the pure expression of refined engineering, sensual beauty and unmistakable Italian style.
The history of the Multistrada is also illustrated in the article Multistrada Dynasty on the Ducati website.
