Wisconsin-based MotoAmerica team Disrupt Racing, whose riders this past season included Hayden Gillim in Yuasa Stock 1000 and Medallia Superbike, as well as Carl Soltisz and Dominic Doyle in Supersport, are staunch supporters of The Red Flag Fund and The Red Flag Foundation, which is a national 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that supports seriously injured motorcycle riders who experience financial and medical difficulties as a result of their injuries. The focus of the Red Flag Fund is safety, partnership, and building a sense of community among riders, race officials, and racing families.
In September, Disrupt Racing and its team owner Jesse Hwilka played an integral role in The Red Flag Foundation’s auction and dinner held at Blackhawk Farms Raceway in South Beloit, Illinois. Hundreds of items were auctioned off, and the event raised more than $25,000 for The Red Flag Fund. Disrupt Racing coordinated the donation of several auction items, including a Ducati-branded Arai helmet that was autographed by MotoAmerica Medallia Superbike rider Danilo Petrucci and 2022 MotoAmerica Supersport Champion Josh Herrin, two brand-new 4SR race suits, and two pieces of “gently used” Honda bodywork that were autographed by Yuasa Stock 1000 and Medallia Superbike rider Geoff May, plus a Vision Wheel/Discount Tire/KWS team shirt also autographed by May.
“I think foundations like the Red Flag Fund are necessary in our sport, and it’s great to see that people are willing to step up and care, and work for racers on all levels,” Hwilka said. “Racing, in general, is a dangerous proposition, especially on two wheels, and let’s face it, we all have to financially support ourselves, especially on the club levels, so additional health care costs in the event of an injury can make or break some individuals. In today’s day and age, insurance coverage doesn’t favor racers, so the Red Flag Fund stepping in to supplement costs of an injury is a huge added peace of mind for a lot of people. It’s inspiring to me to meet people like them who are passionate about our sport and the care of each individual racer.”
