Twelve years ago, something took place at Road America that hasn’t occurred since then. On Sunday June 7, 2009, Ducati recorded its last Superbike win at “America’s National Park of Speed. Aboard his number 72 Foremost Racing Ducati 1098 R Superbike, Larry Pegram emerged victorious from a race-long battle with Yoshimura Suzuki’s Mat Mladin.
Next weekend, Pegram will return to Road America, where he will race the number 73 Pegram Racing Ducati Panigale V4 R in Stock 1000 and Superbike Cup. Call it “getting the band back together,” “one more for old times’ sake,” “reigniting past glories,” or some other appropriate euphemism, but Pegram is bringing his wife Heather, some of his old crew members, and full support from Ducati North America to Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.
It’s an effort spearheaded by the eternally youthful Pegram, with assistance from his friend Michael Kiley, who is the owner of Tytler’s Cycle, a BMW, Ducati, Indian Motorcycle, Energica, and Royal Enfield dealership in Green Bay, Wisconsin, as well as Moto Union in Milwaukee.
“Hard to believe it’s been 12 years since that win on the Foremost Ducati,” Pegram said. “Time flies when you’re having fun, and that’s what next weekend at Road America is all about. Our number-one goal is to have fun. We’re excited to see the fans again, get back together with a lot of my old crew, and wring the fun out of this awesome Ducati.”
Pegram will compete aboard his Stock 1000-spec Ducati in Saturday’s HONOS Superbike race one on Saturday, June 12, at 3:10 p.m. Central, which will be broadcast live on FS2. Then, on Sunday, June 13, he’ll line up for the weekend’s Stock 1000 race at 12:10 p.m. Central (streamed live on Facebook) and cap off his weekend with HONOS Superbike race two, which goes green on Sunday at 3:10 p.m. Central and will be broadcast live on FS1. All three races will also be streamed live on MotoAmerica Live+.
