Collection of Rare Motorcycles Worth USD40m Belonging to Cartel Kingpin Seized
A recent raid in Mexico turned up something out-of-this world, for want of a better word. There, in a warehouse, authorities found a collection of 62 ultra-rare motorcycles worth around USD 40 million (MYR 160 million).
The bikes are said to belong to the cartel kingpin Ryan James Wedding, who was a snowboarder on the Canadian snowboarding team. He is on the FBI’s most-wanted list and a USD 15 million (RM 60 million) reward had been posted.
From these pictures, you can make out several Ducati MotoGP bikes that were ridden by Jorge Lorenzo, Andrea Ianonne, Andrea Dovizioso, Loris Capirossi, and several of Valentino Rossi’s. Heck, there is even an ultra-rare Ducati Supermono.
There is also Rossi’s 125cc GP championship winning bike, plus Marc Marquez’s Moto2 championship bike.
From the picture, we could make out a Muzzy’s Kawasaki ZXR750s that were ridden by Scott Russell, Honda NSR500 ridden by Freddie Spencer, a Ducati 916 possibly ridden by Carl Fogarty, plus others which we could not identify.
The authorities in those countries usually destroy the property belonging to criminals, instead of auctioning them. It will be the most painful moment in most motorcycle fans’ hearts if these 62 bikes are crushed. We can only hope the authorities give them away to museums.
