Caberg’s helmets safety testing laboratory

The Caberg certified internal laboratory is equipped to conduct a series of safety tests on helmets, essential to ensure maximum protection for motorcyclists.

To travel by motorcycle with total peace of mind, a helmet must be practical, comfortable and well-equipped, but above all absolutely safe.

For Caberg, safety always comes first, as demonstrated by the presence of a modern internal laboratory certified from the Ministry of Transport.

This laboratory allows Caberg to carry out all the routine production tests required by the ECE 22.06 regulation, in addition to supplementary development tests.

Caberg safety tests

We will try to give you some information below without going into excessive technicalities, using simple and understandable terms for everyone.

Inside its laboratory, Caberg carries out the four fundamental tests required by current regulations:

  • Impact absorption
    Impact tests involve a series of tests, required by the new ECE 22.06 regulation, on various points of the helmet surface under temperature conditions of +50° and -10°. These tests evaluate the helmet’s ability to absorb and disperse the energy generated by an impact. A headform, equipped with sensors, is inserted inside the helmet and is dropped at specific speeds onto a flat anvil with an edge, measuring the acceleration experienced.
  • Retention system/chin strap test
    Test that analyses the maximum and residual elongation of the chin strap when subjected to a dynamic stress with predetermined energy. In this way, it ensures that the helmet remains firmly in place during use.
  • Front and reverse roll off test
    Determine the displacement angle of both the front and back of the helmet inserted into the headform subjected to a pulling force, ensuring that it does not move beyond 30°.
  • Visor
    The visor, like the helmet, must also be approved and checked during each production batch.
    The main tests must ensure both the optical quality through light absorption and diffusion tests, and the resistance against scratching, as well as the structural integrity after having undergone the test of a dart dropped from a predetermined height against the visor itself.

In addition to these standard tests, Caberg carries out additional tests to evaluate new materials and technical solutions, with the aim of continuously improving the safety of its helmets. The laboratory is also equipped with instruments capable of measuring components under stress, periodically performing durability tests to ensure consistent performance over time.

ECE 22.06 homologation and P/J dual homologation

The passing of safety tests has allowed all Caberg helmets to obtain the ECE 22.06 certification.

The ECE 22.06 regulation represented a significant advancement compared to the previous ECE 22.05. This regulation introduces stricter requirements and a greater number of tests to ensure safety in varied impact situations.

Thanks to its internal laboratory, Caberg carries out all necessary tests in-house, offering helmets that guarantee maximum protection.

Caberg’s modular helmets have obtained a P/J dual homologation, which allows the use as both a full-face helmet (P) and a jet helmet (J). This means that the helmets have successfully passed the tests required by the regulations both with the chin guard closed and with the chin guard open, ensuring maximum safety and versatility.

Continuous innovation for maximum safety

Caberg does not limit itself to respecting the required safety standards, but aims also to exceed them thanks to constant investment in research and development. The goal is to improve protection, comfort and performance.

A significant innovation introduced in the DRIFT EVO, GP01 and TANAMI models is the CABERG SOS MEDICAL ID device. This system integrates a microchip inside the helmet, where it is possible to store personal data, medical information and emergency contacts. In the event of an accident, rescuers can quickly access essential information using a simple smartphone.
