Baz And Gerloff In Top 10 In Jerez

One current and one former MotoAmerica racer both finished in the top 10 of the two World Superbike races held today at the Jerez Circuit in Spain with Loris Baz ending up sixth and ninth and Garrett Gerloff racing to a pair of 10ths on the day.

Baz, who finished fourth in the 2021 MotoAmerica Superbike Championship on his Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati New York Panigale V4 R, filled in admirably for the injured and now-retired Chaz Davies on the GoEleven Ducati team with two solid rides that netted him sixth in race one (and top independent team finisher) and ninth in race two.

Two-time MotoAmerica Supersport Champion and MotoAmerica Superbike race winner Gerloff rode his GRT Yamaha to 10th in both races at Jerez.

With yesterday’s on-track action cancelled due to tragic death of Dean Berta Vinale in Saturday’s World Supersport 300 race, the World Superpole race on Sunday morning was scrapped and both World Superbike races were held on Sunday.

In race one, Baz won a scrap between himself, BMW Motorrad’s Michael Van Der Mark and Motocorsa Racing’s Axel Bassani for sixth place with the Frenchman 10.4 seconds behind race winner Toprak Razgatlioglu and his Pata Yamaha YZF-R1. Gerloff, meanwhile, ended up 10th – a few seconds behind Kawasaki’s Alex Lowes and well clear of Team HRC’s Leon Haslam.

In race two, which was also won by Razgatlioglu over Aruba.it Racing Ducati’s Scott Redding, Baz ended up a just .318 of a second behind Van Der Mark and 4.3 seconds ahead of 10th-placed Gerloff.

With his two wins on the day, Razgatlioglu is now 20 points clear of Kawasaki’s Jonathan Rea in the championship point standings.

Gerloff sits eighth in the championship, 19 points behind Van Der Mark and just one point clear of Honda’s Alvaro Bautista.
