2021 Aprilia Tuono V4 and Tuono V4 Factory | First Look Review
Naked sportbike fans rejoice — the 2021 Aprilia Tuono V4 and Tuono V4 Factory have arrived with subtle styling updates, MotoGP-inspired chassis upgrades and increased comfort. All of this bodes well for Aprilia’s revered sit-up, semi-faired Tuono sportbikes since it’s just as comfortable in the canyons as it is on the racetrack.
At the heart of the Tuono is the thunderous 1,077cc V4 engine, and the only change this year is that it has met Euro 5 emission standards. With 175 horsepower and 89 lb-ft of torque on tap, the Tuono platform is economical in that constant wheeling will help you save front tires.
Aprilia’s design department has achieved complete visual cohesion between its middleweight RS and Tuono 660 offerings, as well as the new RSV4 and Tuono V4 lineup. The Tuono V4 motorcycles now feature styling inspired by the 660 middleweights, including the distinctive triple LED headlight with a DRL. However, the liter bikes kick things up a notch with a cornering light function that helps illuminate the insides of turns. Lastly, the new fairings incorporate the same aerodynamic functions seen on the RS and RSV machines, cooling the engine and drawing hot air away from the rider.
A new, larger full-color TFT display utilizes a more intuitive interface and allows riders to adjust the top-class APRC electronics package. A new Marelli 11MP ECU and 6-axis IMU support multi-level engine braking, adjustable cornering ABS, traction control and wheelie control. All of that is followed up by six riding modes, three of which are customizable.
Ergonomics are updated and said to provide a more comfortable riding position, thanks to the updated fuel tank shape. With tongue firmly in cheeky, Aprilia was keen to point out that “the passenger is no longer a barely tolerated guest,” improving the comfort of the passenger saddle and lowering the footpegs.
One of the strengths of the Tuono platform is its chassis, with its lightweight aluminum twin-spar frame. This year, engineers have given the Tuono machines a lighter under-slung swingarm inspired by the Aprilia RS-GP MotoGP racebike, featuring a lower reinforcement brace to reduce flex under hard acceleration.
Available in two trims, the standard Tuono is equipped with conventional suspension, setting you back $15,999, and is available in two colors — Tarmac Grey and Glacier White. Meanwhile, the Tuono Factory comes equipped with semi-active Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 suspension and is offered in Aprilia Black exclusively for $19,499. Aprilia anticipates the 2021 Aprilia Tuono V4 and Tuono V4 Factory to arrive in dealers in June.
